Renewable Energy for Everyone

Three New Renewable Energy Classes Scheduled for NABCEP CEUs

Renewable Energy Systems -- Firefighter Safety and Outreach - 6 NABCEP CEUs

November 28-29, 2016, 8:00 - 11:00 AM - At the Ecotech Institute, Aurora, Colorado

Also available on live Skype video stream, Contact Us for more information and login information.

In the past, only firefighters in remote or rural areas ever expected to see renewable energy systems during emergency responses. Today, the proliferation of grid-tied photovoltaic systems in urban, suburban, and wildland/urban interface areas means that all firefighters and their commanders stand a good chance of encountering these systems at any time and any place. Very few firefighters and commanders are aware of the special safety precautions needed when operating near renewable energy systems or the NEC regulations intended to protect them. This information is critical to their safety.

In addition, professional renewable energy installers are receiving a rapidly increasing number of requests for PV safety education from their local fire departments. However, most of these installers are not familiar with fire department emergency operations procedures, and are unsure of how to present critical safety information in a manner meaningful to firefighters during the short time periods available for training.

  • This 6-hour class provides thorough coverage of all aspects of renewable energy and firefighter safety, and includes an actual site visit to examine a variety of renewable energy systems close up and in person. Sessions include introduction to firefighting procedures for PV installers, introduction to renewable energy systems for firefighters, suggested response procedures, implications and discussion of new NEC code rules intended to protect firefighters, discussion sessions, and more. A framework for PV installation professionals to build their own local firefighter training and outreach program is included. The Instructor's Package is included on CD or download for this class, and includes complete PowerPoint, instructor's notes, all class handouts, and unlimited use permission. contact us for more information.
  • This class is Registered by NABCEP for Continuing Education and you are eligible for NABCEP CEU credits for completing it:
    • NEC: 0/6
    • PV INSTALLATION JTA: 6/6 or Elective 6/6
    • PV TECH SALES JTA: 0/12 or Elective 6/6
    • SH INSTALLER: JTA/Primary Reference .5/12 or Elective 6/6

Water Pumping with Renewable Energy Systems - 4 NABCEP CEUs

December 1, 2016, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM - At the Ecotech Institute, Aurora, Colorado

Also available on live Skype video stream, Contact Us for more information and login information.
    PV and windmill pumping systems
Water for irrigation, livestock and domestic use is heavy and difficult to move, but renewable energy can be an excellent way to do it.

In this one-day course, participants will learn the various types of solar and wind powered water-pumping systems. Participants will learn to determine the preferred application for each type of system. This course will also cover the technical side including: pump types, solar and wind electrical inputs, and energy storage. The course will describe how the variables of water volume and pumping height determine the capacity and energy demands for moving water.

    • This 4-hour classroom course is designed for anyone interested in installing a water pumping system powered by renewable energy: Farmers, ranchers, homesteaders, and anyone who wants to move off the grid (or already has)--and for PV installation professionals who want to expand their horizons into PV-direct pumping systems, or just learn about the trials and tribulations of running well pumps from off-grid systems.
    • This class is Registered by NABCEP for Continuing Education and you are eligible for NABCEP CEU credits for completing it:
      • NEC 0/6
      • PV INSTALLATION JTA: 2.25/6 or Elective 4/6
      • PV TECH SALES JTA: .75/12 or Elective 4/6
      • SH INSTALLER JTA: Primary Reference 1/12 or Elective 4/6

Off-Grid Systems for Remote Locations - 8 NABCEP CEUs

December 6 and December 8, 2016, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM - At the Ecotech Institute, Aurora, Colorado

Also available on live Skype video stream, Contact Us for more information and login information.

While hands-on training opportunities abound in the field of renewable energy systems, very few include training for dealing with extremely remote, off-grid installations. In addition, as the PV industry has shifted focus to urban grid-tie systems, many experienced PV installers in urban areas now have never worked with a battery-based system. This course gives an excellent, basic foundation for safe and sound design of off-grid systems, with a focus on the most remote and difficult locations.
The 8-hour version of this class is Registered by NABCEP for Continuing Education and you are eligible for NABCEP CEU credits for completing it:

    • NEC: 0/6
    • PV INSTALLATION JTA: 6/6 or Elective 6/6
    • PV TECH SALES JTA: 6/12 or Elective 6/6
    • SH INSTALLER JTA: Primary Reference 0/12 or Elective 6/6
